Table of contents and summary
This first volume gathers twenty-four analytical essays on the major thinkers of the image — from ecological perception to computational culture, by way of technical reproducibility, the society of the spectacle, the predictive brain, and technics. Organized into six thematic parts, these essays trace how images have become full-fledged cognitive, cultural, and technological environments. The volume closes with a synthesizing essay that introduces the concept of iconemia: the hypothesis that the predictive model of the self is essentially imagistic, and that our contemporary environment of image saturation renders us structurally vulnerable. This first volume thus lays the theoretical foundations of an anthropology of perception for the age of generative artificial intelligence.
